About the Event

One billion people and over 100 million refugees and forcibly displaced live in fragile, conflict-affected and vulnerable settings and climate-change affected countries. Meeting SDG 6 for all calls for new ways of working. Observing International Humanitarian Law (IHL), renewed commitments and “joined-up” action by communities, governments, humanitarian and development actors are required, coupled with effective leadership and coordination to drive policy change and leave no one behind. This session challenges the global community to commit to game-changing action

Objectives

This side event will examine several challenges and aspects of humanitarian situations from a WASH perspective. It will examine strengthening (i) the resilience of communities; (ii) service delivery (infrastructure and service providers) and (iii) the WASH sector through innovative approaches. The session will also highlight the level to which IHL is being observed in armed conflicts and the need for a renewed commitment to the protection of essential services, including water. Finally, it will showcase the critical role of partnerships and ‘joined up’ action for collective outcomes by the humanitarian, development and peace actors and the central role that coordination across multi-stakeholder platforms can play.
