On 22 March 2023, the Centre for International Environmental Studies (CIES) co-hosted a hybrid event at the Geneva Graduate Institute with the Executive Education Programme (IHEID), the LLM Programme (IHEID), the International Law department (IHEID), the Geneva Water Hub and the Faculty of Law of the University of Geneva, Platform for International Water Law, for a lunch seminar with Ximena Fuentes, Professor of Public International Law at the Faculty of Law of Universidad de Chile and Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Chile.
In this lecture, Professor Fuentes introduced different cases of international water dispute resolution, presenting the work of legal teams working with international tribunals called to rule on international water disputes to work and evaluate hydrological models and expert reports. In particular, Professor Fuentes presented the dispute over the status and use of the waters of the Silala river cases in which Professor Fuentes led the Chilean defence team.

Prof. Ximena Fuentes Torrijo will give a conference on “The role of science in the resolution of disputes regarding international water resources”. Ximena Fuentes Torrijo is Professor of Public International Law at the Faculty of Law of Universidad de Chile and Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Chile.
The conference is co-organized with the Centre for International Environmental Studies of the Institute.
