Please find below the Experts’ Opinion which stems from the session 2022 SIWI World Water Week Session “Value of Water during Armed Conflicts”. The Finnish Special Envoy, Antti Rautavaara, has shared the Experts’ Opinion with the UN Water Conference 2023 co-hosts and also with the Office of President of General Assembly. The document will be distributed via the Finnish communication channels, including uploading it online.
This session highlights the critical role of water in armed conflicts, underlining gaps and weaknesses in international frameworks and practices, and highlights available measures to protect the human rights to water and sanitation, water resources and infrastructure, and a healthy environment for all.
