9th World Water Forum - Preparatory training for journalists to cover current hydro-political affairs related to the 9th World Water Forum

Le^9e Forum mondial de l'eau (FME) se tiendra à Dakar, au Sénégal, du 21 au 26 mars 2022, sous le titre "La sécurité de l'eau pour la paix et le développement". Le FME couvrira un large éventail de thèmes liés à la gestion actuelle de l'eau et à la coopération internationale dans le domaine de l'eau, en mettant l'accent sur la consolidation de la paix et le développement. Le Secrétariat exécutif du^9ème Forum mondial de l'eau et le bulletin d'information sur l'eau The Water Diplomat, produit en partenariat entre l'OOSKAnews et le Geneva Water Hub, collaborent pour fournir un soutien aux journalistes cherchant à couvrir les événements liés au^9ème Forum mondial de l'eau à Dakar.

General Objective of the Course for Journalists

Improve the media coverage of hydro-political themes and their anchoring in the media supported by this training.

Description of the course

Ce cours est destiné aux journalistes (et aux jeunes professionnels de l'eau) qui souhaitent couvrir les événements du 9è Forum mondial de l'eau. La gestion de l'eau est complexe et multidimensionnelle, car l'eau est nécessaire au niveau des ménages, à tous les secteurs de l'économie et à l'environnement pour maintenir la vie elle-même. L'eau revêt également une dimension stratégique dans les relations entre les États, les juridictions et les secteurs qui partagent les eaux de surface et les eaux souterraines, ou lorsque les infrastructures hydrauliques sont attaquées lors d'un conflit armé. Cette formation fournira tout d'abord aux participants les concepts de base des politiques et de la gestion de l'eau qui sont nécessaires à la compréhension des enjeux liés à l'eau. Elle leur fournira également une série d'informations sur le 9ème Forum mondial de l'eau, ses thèmes prioritaires, ses attentes et ses acteurs. 

Expected Results of the Course

After having followed this course, journalists will have a general overview of the principal topics related to water policy and management. They will also have a general overview of questions related to the role of water in international law. Course participants will have knowledge of and scientific references for the principal themes covered during the Forum and they will understand the specific and innovative approach of the 9th Forum to resolving some of the key challenges for the management of water at the global, regional and local level.

• Water resources policy and management
• Water Sanitation and Hygiene
• Transboundary water resources and the evolution of International Water Law
• The protection of water in international humanitarian law
