Case Study n°1 - Co-evolution Between Mega-Cities’ Development and the Vulnerability to Floods: Lessons from the Yangtze and the Yellow River
The Geneva Water Hub’s Case Studies offer teaching material as a base to facilitating discussion. This first case study explores interlinkages between urban development patterns and the vulnerability to floods. These co-evolution processes are illustrated by the case of two adjacent watersheds, the one of the Yangtze river (Chang Jiang) and the one of the Yellow river (Huang He). The case study sheds light on three structural characteristics that positively impact on the vulnerability to floods: maturity, anthropization and centrality. The case study is supported by a robust and user-friendly set of illustrations highlighting co-evolution processes through maps and graphs. Furthermore, it leads to the discussion around the consideration of both the territorial contingencies and the structural aspects of the design of water governance.
L'information complète peut être téléchargée au format PDF ci-dessous. Elle est composée de deux documents en français. Le premier, intitulé "Problématique et visuels", s'adresse au public. Il est conçu pour être projeté sur grand écran et comprend divers textes courts et visuels (cartes, infographies, graphiques...). La seconde, "Annexe pédagogique", est structurée pour l'animateur et permet de structurer la discussion. Elle fournit un fil conducteur pour la présentation. La correspondance entre les parties traitées dans les deux documents est indiquée par les symboles de différentes couleurs du logo du Geneva Water Hub : bleu, vert et noir. Ce symbolisme permet à l'animateur de structurer ses propos et enfin d'entamer une discussion avec son auditoire.
