Global High-Level Panel on Water and Peace, 2nd Meeting

05.04.2016 Global High-Level Panel on Water and Peace, 2nd Meeting
After its constitution and its launch on 14 and 15 November 2015 in Geneva, the Global High-Level Panel on Water and Peace will meet for the second time in Dakar from 5 to 7 April, 2016.

The purpose of the meeting is to advance the development of concrete proposals to prevent and resolve water-related tensions internationally. The event will be opened by the Senegalese President H.E. Macky Sall, and will provide multiple opportunities for exchanges between panelists and regional actors. An audience of about 300 people is expected at the opening ceremony on 5 April at the King Fahd Palace in Dakar, including representatives of the diplomatic corps.

Two main themes will be highlighted during the meeting: i) financial incentives for trans-boundary cooperation; and ii) the protection of water infrastructure against violent conflict and terrorism. In this context, nearly 50 agencies and think tanks are invited to exchange with the Panel at the head office of the Organisation pour la Mise en Valeur du Fleuve Sénégal (OMVS) in Dakar on 6 April.

The Dakar meeting will also help prepare the next session of the Global High-Level Panel, to be held in Latin America at the end of 2016, which will focus on inter-sectoral conflicts over water.
