Universities Partnership for Water Cooperation and Diplomacy
The Universities Partnership for Water Cooperation and Diplomacy (UPWCD) serves as a platform for universities and other research organizations to establish and further develop collaborations and networks. The main objective of the UPWCD is to bring together research and teaching competences from various institutions and disciplines and to enhance their visibility, impact and service to society. The partnership achieves its objectives by:
Enhancing scientific knowledge and capacities in water cooperation and diplomacy;
Contributing to the public debate and discourses on shared waters; and
Introducing rigorous science into related dialogues and deliberation processes.
The following article discusses the role that academic and scientific institutions play in water diplomacy and cooperation and reflects on the contribution that partners of the UPWCD can jointly make to further the cause of water cooperation and diplomacy.
